Answering Questions at the Data Protection Compliance Conference
At the Data Protection Compliance Conference, Deputy Information Commissioner Angus Macleod gave a speech about the work of the ICO and how data protection professionals and the ICO can work together to ensure data is used responsibly. He discussed the range of services offered by the ICO, such as "Data Essentials" products designed to help small businesses complete basic training modules on data protection, the Innovation Advice service which provides practical, pragmatic and accountable advice on innovative data use, and the Regulatory Sandbox which allows organisations to work closely with expert teams. MacLeod also talked about how the future of the ICO lies in its shifts of approach: prioritising more simply, being more transparent, displaying greater empathy, providing regulatory certainty, and maximising capacity and capability. Finally, he concluded by encouraging data protection professionals to come together and learn from each other, whilst the ICO works to remain relevant and support them in their jobs.
