Consultation on Guidance on Biometric Data and Technologies: 18 August to 20 October 2023

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is conducting a consultation on the use of biometric data and technology, with the goal of providing guidance for organisations that process such data. The consultation will run from August 18 to October 20 of 2023, and the ICO is encouraging individuals, organisations, businesses, regulators, academics, and other interested parties to participate. Those participating will be asked to share their views on questions such as the type of personal information covered by the proposed guidance, the purposes for which biometric data may be used, the potential benefits and risks associated with the use of biometric data and technology, and the appropriate safeguards that should be in place for such data processing. The ICO aims to produce guidance that clarifies the obligations related to the processing of biometric data, enabling organisations to better comply with data protection laws and protect individuals' privacy.
