The Securities and Exchange Commission has appointed Deborah J. Jeffrey as their Inspector General, effective May 7th 2023. Ms. Jeffrey is currently the Inspector General of AmeriCorps. She brings a wealth of experience in public service and oversight to this role. As Inspector General, Ms. Jeffrey will work independently to promote the integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness of the SEC’s critical programs and operations through rigorous and objective oversight. Prior to her time in AmeriCorps, Ms. Jeffrey was in private practice for 25 years representing individuals and entities in white-collar criminal defense and civil enforcement proceedings. Ms. Jeffrey holds degrees from Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Law School, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review.
