Ensuring Data Protection & Privacy for Citizens in the Global Digital Economy through PETs

By

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is recommending organisations to start using privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) to share people's personal information safely, securely, and anonymously. These technologies open new avenues for harnessing the power of personal data for innovative applications without having visibility into the same datasets. PETs can be used against financial crimes and other harms like fraud, money laundering, and cybercrimes. ICO will support UK businesses in developing and innovating with such technologies so that privacy of citizens is maintained. The Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan is convening a G7 roundtable in Tokyo on 20-21 June 2023 where G7 data protection and privacy authorities will discuss data free flow with trust, enforcement cooperation, and other emerging technologies like generative AI technologies with a view to promote effective strategies to secure high levels of protections for citizens in the global digital economy.
