Securities and Exchange Commission Commissioner Mark T. Uyeda has been sworn in for his second term, solidifying his commitment to overseeing the nation's financial markets. The ceremony took place at the Securities and Exchange Commission on December 28, 2023, marking the continuation of Commissioner Uyeda's dedicated service.

Commissioner Uyeda initially assumed office on June 30, 2022, after receiving a nomination from President Joseph Biden and subsequent confirmation by the U.S. Senate for a term concluding in 2023. Recognizing his contributions, President Biden nominated Commissioner Uyeda for an extended term set to expire in 2028. This nomination received confirmation from the U.S. Senate on December 20, 2023.

SEC Chair Gary Gensler expressed admiration for Commissioner Uyeda's dedication, stating, "Commissioner Uyeda is a dedicated public servant who cares deeply about our capital markets. I’m looking forward to our continued work together in furtherance of the SEC’s mission to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation."

In response to his reappointment, Commissioner Uyeda conveyed gratitude, saying, "I am grateful to have the privilege of continuing to serve the American public alongside my fellow colleagues at the Commission."

Apart from his current role, Commissioner Uyeda has a rich history of service within the SEC. From 2006 to 2022, he held various positions, including Senior Advisor to Chairman Jay Clayton, Senior Advisor to Acting Chairman Michael S. Piwowar, and Counsel to Commissioner Paul S. Atkins. His expertise extends to the Division of Investment Management, and he also served on detail from the SEC to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs as a securities counsel to the committee's minority staff.

Before joining the SEC, Commissioner Uyeda served as Chief Advisor to the California Corporations Commissioner, the state’s securities regulator. His legal background includes stints at prominent law firms, such as K&L Gates (formerly known as Kirkpatrick & Lockhart LLP) in Washington, D.C., and O’Melveny & Myers LLP in Los Angeles.

Commissioner Uyeda's reappointment signifies a continued commitment to upholding the SEC's mission and furthering the interests of investors and market participants.
