Chinese-owned social media giant TikTok has introduced a series of novel features for its European users as part of a concerted effort to ensure compliance with the European Union's forthcoming Digital Services Act (DSA).

The DSA, which sets out regulations for online platforms and their responsibilities, mandates companies such as TikTok, Google, and other major players to actively police illicit content on their platforms, curtail specific advertising practices, and collaborate with authorities in data sharing. While TikTok had undertaken a voluntary "stress test" recently, Thierry Breton, the EU's industry chief, emphasized that further strides were required for complete compliance from the social media giant.

Breton stated, "TikTok is committing significant resources towards compliance. The time has now come to expedite efforts to achieve full compliance." TikTok has taken a step forward by unveiling new measures that align with the DSA guidelines. These measures include simplifying the process for European users to report illegal content, enabling users to disable personalized video recommendations, and discontinuing targeted advertising for users between the ages of 13 and 17.
