The Information Commissioners' Office has fined two companies £180,000 for illegally making marketing calls to businesses signed up with the UK’s ‘Do Not Call’ register. The ICO noted that these companies made more than 480,000 unlawful live marketing calls, making those receiving them feel uncomfortable and harassed. The fines are meant to serve as a warning to others who may be tempted to flout the law. Complaints included persistent calls being made despite those on the other end asking to be removed and reported rude and argumentative behavior from some of the callers. Companies should screen their numbers against the Do Not Call register before making any marketing calls.
