ICO joins global data protection and privacy enforcement programme

By

The UK's Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has joined the Global Cooperation Arrangement for Privacy Enforcement (Global CAPE), a new international agreement aimed at enhancing cooperation in cross-border data protection and privacy enforcement. As a member of Global CAPE, the ICO can assist in investigations and share information with other member countries without needing separate agreements. Global CAPE includes countries such as the United States, Australia, Canada, Mexico, and others.

John Edwards, the UK Information Commissioner, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in addressing global data protection and privacy issues, emphasizing the necessity of working with international partners to safeguard individuals' privacy regardless of their location. The initiative supplements the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation Cross-border Privacy Rules (APEC CBPR), extending cooperation beyond the Asia-Pacific region to include countries worldwide.
