The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is asking accountants in the UK to take a proactive role in helping their SME clients have the right data protection practices in place. According to research conducted by the ICO in 2021 with over 200 SMEs, accountants are a key part of the professional network that SMEs rely on to ensure their business dealings are compliant with data protection laws. The ICO has released seven questions for accountants to ask their SME clients about their data protection compliance, as well as free resources to help them understand their role in protecting personal data and unlocking its value.
